After having put on my best attire for the day, I looked in the mirror to admire myself and make some corrections in areas I didn’t look so good.
But this time, I wasn’t looking at the man in the mirror. While I took the gaze, I pondered over the manner of man I was.
I would do all sort of crazy things imaginable and unimaginable during the week, but I would put on my best clothes on Sunday and appear before everyone as a good man.
I was indeed a different man on Sundays. Then I asked myself, how long will I continue being these men? It was starting to look like a multi-personality situation.
How long will I continue? The question that provoked a change. Then, things started to take a turn.
The above story or example is only just an example of today’s Christian.
The Christians today struggle with a lot of things from Monday to Saturday and only become Christians or holy on Sundays. This is not the ideal man that God wants us to become.
Remember God’s word in revelation 3:15-16, particularly verse 16:
so then because thou art lukewarm, neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
We have seen people who are revered Christians, but they work contrary to the statutes of God.
They insult people during the week days, they deceive men and rid them of their hard earned gains. They lie, and do everything God has instructed us not to do. But on Sundays they are leaders in their denominations, they are ministers and so on.
The finished work of Christ is often ridiculed. They blame it on grace.
On a few occasions, I have heard people defend these men pointing it to “Grace”. But how long shall we continue deceiving ourselves (Romans 6:1)?
A certain denomination (name withheld), quoted the scriptures and interpreted that Christ’s death has abolished our sins.
True, but that is not all. They said that Christ has abolished all sins, including the past, present and future. People love hearing teachings like this. In literal terms, they were insinuating that man can still be a criminal even as a Christian.
They meant that God now overlooks man’s state simply because he declared for Christ. This is the type of teaching that has made man comfortable in his state. They make him live in sin with all boldness, regardless of what God has done to save him.
I ask dear reader, if God always wanted his children to continue in sin, why did he waste his time sending his only begotten son to save man? John 3:16
If God wanted man to live in sin and worship him, then why did he banish the devil out of heaven? Or has God reconciled with the devil?
Can darkness and light work together?
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit (Matthew 7:18).
1john 3:9-10 explains it even better. It answers all the questions presented above.
Indeed, God cannot lie. Saying that God can live in man’s heart together with man’s evil deeds translates to mean that God is a liar.
A true Christian will bear the fruits of a Christian. His works are the works of his father, God.
I ask again dear reader, shall we continue deceiving ourselves every single day?
Let us come out and be separate.
Acts 17: 30 says:
that at the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent.
Take charge of your Christian life. There’s no sitting or standing on the fence.
The fruits of the spirit as mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23 are not only for Sundays alone. These fruits flow from the Christian everyday irrespective of who they deal with.
Galatians 5:24-25 also charges us to crucify the flesh with its desires and work in newness of mind.
This article is an admonishment to Christians to work in the spirit and do away with the desires of the flesh. If it weren’t so, the scriptures wouldn’t have said that in Galatians 5:24-25 and other verses in the bible.
God’s presence is not in the church or temple made with hands (Acts 7:48 & 2Corinthians 5:1), he is inside the Christian man. His very nature, his excellence, his care and everything you can imagine.
Remember Colossians 3: 10:
Put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.
Be the superman that God wants you to become. Don’t say it is impossible, in so doing you rely on your own strength. But with God, all things are possible.
Let him be your strength and assurance.
